THE LAST NIGHT OF THE DEER

Performance by Jānis Balodis and Nahuel Cano

They are sitting in a car. It’s dark, cold and snowing outside. Bright
lights of the ferry port terminal are left behind. The journey has began,
and it feels like we are rolling into a movie that we didn’t know we
needed to see.

“The Last Night of the Deer” is a show about a road-trip from
Klaipeda to Riga during a snowstorm. It’s about entering empty, bright
supermarket and finding a forest there. About humans and more than
human spirits that have decided to come into contact tonight. It is about
fathers and being a father, friendship, hungry dogs and a deer that
appears in front of the headlights. It's about an attempt to find openings
in a future that imagines itself as a dead end.
The work combines folklore with mundane and spoken word with
live music, turning a show into a song that culminates into a collective
dance moment together with audience.
